The Disciples Women Fellowship (DWF) is an organization for all women of First Christian Church. DWF meets the second Thursday of each month for lunch, a business meeting, fellowship, and Bible Study. The meetings are held in the Fellowship Hall. First Christian Church Disciple Women’s members frequently participate in regional and national Disciple Women’s events.
DWF sponsors two service groups: the Mary Martha Group and the Shawl Ministry. The Mary Martha Group is a sewing group that makes articles such as school bags for children in third world countries, walker bags, and doll blankets for the Salvation Army to give to little girls during the Christmas season. The Shawl Ministry prayerfully makes shawls for those who are experiencing a serious illness or crisis in their lives. It is the hope of the group that this gift will in some way convey to the recipient the church’s love and concern for them as they go through difficult times. The Shawl Ministry also makes warm winter hats.
DWF supports community projects such as Project Warmth, the Community Thanksgiving Dinner, the Community Christmas Service, Holy Week Services, and the Pittsburg State University student day.
An important responsibility of the DWF is the preparation and serving of condolence dinners for church families who have recently lost a loved one. The DWF also helps prepare the meal for the annual First Christian Church Thanksgiving Dinner.
